How to mount ISO images using File Explorer
On Windows 11, you can mount ISO images in three ways using File Explorer; by double-clicking the ISO image, use the file context menu option or choose the option from the ribbon menu. Here’s what you need to do.
Double-click
To quickly mount an ISO image on Windows 11, follow these steps.
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Browse to the location of the ISO image you want to mount.
3. Double-click the ISO image to automatically mount it.
Once you complete these steps, the ISO image will be mounted, and you can access and extract the contents just as you would any other folder.
Context menu
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Browse to the location of the ISO image.
3. Right-click the ISO image and select Mount.
Once you complete these steps, you can access and extract the contents by selecting the virtual drive from the navigation pane.
Ribbon menu
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Browse to the location of the ISO image.
3. Select the .iso file.
4. Click Mount from the ribbon menu.
Once you complete these steps, you can access and extract files from the contents just as you would from any other folder.
Unmount image using File Explorer
Once you are no longer using the ISO image on Windows 11, you can almost instantly unmount it by clicking the virtual drive under This PC and selecting the Eject option. Here’s what you need to do.
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Expand This PC from the left navigational pane.
3. Right-click the virtual drive and click the Eject button. You can also select the Eject button from the ribbon menu.
After you complete these steps the ISO image will no longer be accessible unless you decide to mount it again.
Mount ISO images on PowerShell
To mount an ISO image using PowerShell, follow these steps.
1. Open PowerShell as an administrator.
2. Type the following command to mount an ISO file using PowerShell: Mount-DiskImage -ImagePath "PATHTOISOFILE"
